ETO building consists of offices, expo halls, sports facilities and a convention center. The different programs are connected with a continuous shell which creates enclosed, semi-closed and open areas.
Program
The proposed building for the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce encompasses various functions in line with the architectural program requirements. These functions, with different user profiles, usage times, and variable building sizes, lead to a diversity of demands. The proposed architectural solution is designed to emphasize the unity of these differences. This concept will create an interactive environment for those using the building for various purposes.
Spatial Composition
The service building structures, exhibition areas, and social facility structures are integrated into a linear circulation volume. This arrangement, supported by the site's elongated geometry, not only physically connects independent functional components but also defines a strong boundary along one edge of the site for the created open and enclosed space arrangements. The masses integrated into the circulation volume along the western side of the site are elevated above ground and extend from the extensive natural landscape, left as green space, passing underneath the buildings and reaching the circulation volume. This natural landscape texture continues within the circulation volume as open and semi-open spaces.
The "CIRCULATION VOLUME" simultaneously forms the entrance line to the building complex. Users entering the site from a single point transition to the circulation volume through openings created along this line.
Volume
The volume that accommodates circulation is defined by a shell. This shell is not simply described as a roof, a wall, or a floor. It is a shell that envelops the spatiality of circulation independently of these elements, embracing the volume in the third dimension. Users walk inside it, reaching different levels through bridges and platforms. The side facing the green area – eastward – is transparent, while other parts are opaque. The opaque part consists of a bent single surface. A single material is used, and regular gaps create skylights above and green bands below. The continuity of the volume surrounding the space is not interrupted by floors; instead, circulation bands are completely separated from the volume. This enhances the feeling of being inside the volume rather than on its surface. Consequently, the defined circulation volume enriches the overall spatial composition and encourages interaction among users. Circulation is not viewed solely as a means of access between units but is also interpreted as an activity area contributing to the building's social life. The shell is covered with copper sheets on the outside, emphasizing its perception, and it is used as a strong connecting element for integrated building components.
